Boxer Training Tips
Welcome to Boxer Training Tips. This is a site dedicated to all Boxer fans who are madly passionate about the breed, and for those who are interested in becoming a Boxer owner.
Here you will find answers to many of the questions that we all have about the sometimes puzzling, sometimes maddening and sometimes endearing behavior of our “best friend.”
A wide range of training and obedience topics are covered, so enjoy!
The most important boxer training tips are all connected with the fact that the dog is a pack animal by nature and looks to the pack leader to direct all of its actions.
Therefore it is important from the outset that the trainer takes on the responsibility and assumes the role of pack leader or takes what is known as the Alpha position.
Boxers can sometimes be a little stubborn, so taking on the alpha position is very important when training a boxer.
The dog is comfortable when it knows that you, as the trainer, have control of the situation, and it can relax and follow your commands and not worry about who will protect and lead it.
This, fortunately, does not mean getting down on all fours and barking and growling, but using commands which will teach the pet to interact suitably in its human/dog pack.
Many people wrongly assume that the onus is on the dog to learn obedience, but dog training is not about the dog taking responsibility, it’s about the trainer leading the process and setting up the rules.
When looking for some good boxer training tips, it’s important to know just where to start. So think about what it is your dog needs from you and then learn the right techniques to give it to them.
We may sometimes believe that a dog is very clever when actually it is only reacting to its trainer. It wants to belong and be accepted as a pack member and still has all the animal instincts it was born with, so when trying to train a dog and eliminate any of its undesirable behaviors, the best and most successful methods all involve changing the way the dog expresses any negative instincts.

Some fundamental Boxer Training Tips
- Obedience Classes will give you and your boxer an ideal introduction to training. Best taken when the puppy is young, these classes teach an owner how to take up the leader of “alpha” position and some precise commands to control the dog.
- If you have a new puppy or are maybe having some difficulties with an older dog, then obedience training classes are a great help and can boost your home training program.
- Leash Training – One of the most common problems owners face are issues with their dog’s behavior on the leash. Remember – the leash is in your hands in more ways than one!
- Many dogs with leash problems have been allowed to race off on their walk in an excited state and will continue to pull madly on their leash throughout their walk.
- The best time to put the leash on the dog is when it is calm and composed. So the dog should be taught to sit calmly while the leash is slipped on, and follow behind as the owner steps outside first, fully in control.
- Crate training – this is not a method that suits everyone, but there is a place for using this type of training. A crate can make help in housebreaking a puppy, reducing barking issues or resolve anxiety problems.
- The crate can provide a dog with a safe and secure place of its own, which can be a haven if used carefully and correctly. It should never be used as punishment and should always be introduced slowly with plenty of treats and patience.
Finally – Be Consistent
All dog training procedures need to be carried out consistently. For a dog to learn new behaviors they need constant, regular repeated practice in a stable environment.
A dog can become easily confused or agitated and stop following commands if they are not given in the exact manner each time. It is also important for all members of the household to use the same commands in the same manner.
Sometimes it seems that the best dog training can be more difficult for the owners that for our furry friends, but it is really worthwhile and satisfying not to mention a lot less stressful, to have a happy, well socialized pet. I’m sure if you follow the Boxer training tips on this site you will succeed.
